This movie takes a look at what is really going on in the medical profession in America. This film exposes a well funded, highly organized concerted effort of the American Medical Association (AMA), the pharmaceutical industry, and insurance companies, with full support of the Food and Drug Administration in passing legislation and enforcing laws that purposefully seek to suppress and in some cases outlaw non-allopathic [alternative] patient care practices. For example, it covers the “Wilk’s Suit” where Judge Getzendanner, concluded on September 25, 1987, that in her opinion the AMA had violated Section 1, but not 2, of the Sherman Act, and that it had engaged in an unlawful conspiracy in restraint of trade “to contain and eliminate the chiropractic profession.” She further opined that the “AMA had entered into a long history of illegal behavior“. (Wilk v. American Medical Ass’n, 671 F. Supp. 1465, N.D. Ill. 1987).

The purpose of this blog entry is not to disparage the medical profession. This blogger is well aware that, as with any profession, there are both good and bad practitioners. I have many friends that are doctors, and know first hand their desire to provide the best patient care possible.

However, what is apparent from this movie is blatant systemic problems with the current state of healthcare sans significant dialogue regarding the standards used in the determination of medical choices or the lack thereof. I believe that medical, naturopathic, chiropractic doctors ought to be able to contribute freely to the discussion of patient care free from the current pressures exerted by these regulating agencies and professional associations.

I, like so many others, believe the medical industry does a great job of dealing with acute trauma, emergency, intensive, and neonatal care, but fail miserably when it comes to dealing with chronic conditions especially when they are derived from multiple deficiencies within the body, i.e., nutrition, viral/bacterial, vitamin/mineral, etc. This is even more obvious when it comes to cancer patients. In fact, presently the only treatment recommendations that a licensed medical physician can “legally” offer his/her patient is a choice between “Radiation”, “Chemotherapy”, or “Surgery”. And that’s it.

There seems to be a fundamental difference in ones approach to treating illness and disease, one being to treat the symptoms only, with pharmaceuticals; not necessarily concerned with the root cause of the condition or two, optimize the healing capacity of the body so it can heal itself. This philosophical difference in approaching the healing process needs to be examined further.

The good news is that there are a lot of good options available. But its going to require you to take the time and do your homework. The Internet has become a great resource and provides a lot of good clinical data to consider. Take the time and educate yourself on what is the true nature of our healthcare system and begin to develop a strategy to gain access to the treatments that best suit the outcomes you value and that best suit your health and wellbeing.

Although this documentary is (1hr 43min), its well worth the time to educate yourself on what you are up against as you navigates the waters of our healthcare system in America.
